Haze Strain Origins (Santa Cruz)

๐Ÿ”ฅ Culture First mentioned: Ep. 125

The original Haze was developed in the late 1960s in the Santa Cruz Mountains by a single grower near Pacific High School, using three pure Colombian varieties: Colombian Gold, Colombian Magenta, and Punta Roja Colombian. After 5-10 years of inbreeding, South Indian and Thai genetics were added for vigor. The so-called 'Haze Brothers' were not brothers but two separate growers using the same seed stock.

Sam (Skunkman) provided first-hand account: the grower started near Pacific High School in Santa Cruz Mountains, moved to the city of Santa Cruz around 1970, was Sam's neighbor. Sam brought Haze to the Netherlands in 1984-85. Neville crossed it with NL5 to create the famous NL5 x Haze hybrids that dominated Amsterdam cannabis cups in 1995-97. Sam considers pure Haze superior to hybrids. Pure Haze was difficult to finish outdoors due to long flowering time.
