// Definition
A semi-synthetic cannabinoid production method where CBDV isolate is chemically converted to THCV using acid-catalyzed ring closure. Snapdragon CBD (Tennessee) marketed a THCV isolate that Dr. Mark Scialdone identified as delta-8 configured rather than true delta-9 THCV, indicating semi-synthetic production from CBDV. Starting with CBDV can also produce THCB as a byproduct.
// From the Episode
Dr. Scialdone referenced Paul Mahlberg's research on cannabinoid biosynthesis to explain why delta-8 isomers are not natural plant products. He criticized so-called cannabis experts who claim delta-8 is naturally occurring: 'Go read Paul Mahlberg, go read the people who actually figured out cannabinoid biosynthesis — it ends at delta-9.'
