CBD Strain Elimination

๐ŸŒฟ Cultivation First mentioned: Ep. 057

The historical loss of CBD-rich cannabis genetics during the 1970s-80s, when growers unknowingly discarded plants high in CBD because they didn't produce the desired psychoactive effects, not understanding cannabinoid ratios at the time.

Mel Frank explains that many pure Afghani strains arriving in the US were 'a mix of CBD and THC' and when smoke-tested 'it doesn't get you that high. We never grew it again.' Bubbleman notes that Skunkman Sam acknowledged this selective pressure, calling CBD 'the anti-THC.' Frank observes these strains were 'really resinous, they look gorgeous, but they wouldn't get you that high.' This accidental genetic bottleneck is now recognized as a significant loss, given CBD's proven medical value.
