Blasted Bud Resale

๐Ÿ”ฅ Culture First mentioned: Ep. 056

The unethical practice of selling cannabis flower that has already been run through a solvent extraction process (blasted with butane, propane, or other solvents) as if it were unprocessed bud. The resulting product retains non-volatile solvent residues and has been stripped of external trichomes, terpenes, and some cannabinoids.

Bubbleman described receiving reports of buds being sold on the East Coast that had been packed into tubes, blasted with butane or propane, then dried and resold. Under microscope, the buds had resin on the inside but not outside. He compared it to the 1990s practice of 'bouncing buds' (shaking them on screens) before sale, but worse because solvent residues remain. Mark Scialdone paralleled it to the decaf coffee industry, which used propane and butane to strip caffeine then switched to CO2 when consumers noticed the taste degradation.
