Contaminant

๐Ÿ’ง Extraction First mentioned: Ep. 001

Any non-glandular plant material mixed in with trichome heads during the extraction process. Includes leaf fragments, stem fibres, cell walls, and other plant debris. Under magnification, contaminant appears as irregular "worm-like" shapes, in contrast to the round "grape-like" appearance of intact trichome gland heads. Minimising contaminant is the central challenge of all solventless extraction.

Contaminant was introduced in Episode 1 alongside Bubbleman's famous "worms vs grapes" analogy. Under a microscope, the difference is immediately visible: trichome heads are round and translucent, while plant debris is fibrous, irregular, and opaque. Bubbleman noted that a single screen of dry sift typically contains roughly 75% contaminant โ€” meaning three-quarters of the material is not what you want. Bubble Bags achieve 98-99% purity because water allows trichomes to separate more cleanly than mechanical agitation. The entire craft of solventless extraction is essentially about maximising the grape-to-worm ratio.
