// Definition
The grassroots movement in the late 1990s and 2000s that brought water hash (ice water extraction) from an obscure technique to mainstream cannabis culture. Key to this popularization was the sharing of detailed process information, screen sizes, and close-up photography on early internet forums.
// From the Episode
Bubbleman gave a detailed first-person account in Ep 052. He started his company in 1999, around the time Rob Clarke published 'Hashish' (1998). Despite the book containing the technical information, few people were reading it. Bubbleman began posting close-up digital photographs of hash on Overgrow.com, sharing screen sizes on his bubble bag products (information competitors withheld), and freely teaching techniques. He described finding only a handful of people worldwide who had melty hash when he started, traveling to different countries and finding perhaps one person per region. The Isolator bags that existed at the time came as two bags with no screen numbers. His open-source approach to information sharing was foundational to water hash becoming a widely practiced technique.
