UV and Trichome Phenotype

⚗️ Science First mentioned: Ep. 076

The theory that ultraviolet radiation (particularly UVB) influences trichome development and resin production in cannabis, potentially as a plant defense mechanism. At higher altitudes, different UV bands reach the plant surface.

Skunkman Sam explains that altitude breaks UV into different bands, with some reaching the ground only at higher elevations. He tested UV supplementation indoors but could not fully replicate altitude effects. The phenotypical expression is controlled by genetics, but UV modulates the trichome response. This connects to the hashishene discussion — degradation products form differently under various UV conditions.
