// Definition
A rare sesquiterpene found in certain cannabis cultivars, notably Whitethorn Rose. It is a precursor to eudesmane and is almost never detected in standard commercial cannabis terpene panels due to the limited scope of testing.
// From the Episode
Discovered through Columbia University analysis of Huckleberry Hill Farms' Whitethorn Rose, selinadiene emerged as the second or third most prominent terpene in outdoor plots of the cultivar. Dr. Mark Scialdone noted he had never seen a testing lab report this compound, and Ryan Lee (Chimera) observed it could have over 20 structural isomers, complicating detection. The discovery highlighted how much remains unknown about cannabis chemistry.
