PTFE Film

💧 Extraction First mentioned: Ep. 025

Polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon) film used as a non-stick surface for collecting rosin and handling sticky hash concentrates. Rated to approximately 500°F, PTFE provides superior non-stick properties compared to parchment paper, allowing cleaner and more complete collection of pressed rosin. Not resistant to hydrocarbon solvents, limiting its use to solventless applications.

PTFE film was discussed as the preferred collection surface for rosin pressing, replacing parchment paper for serious producers. The completely non-stick surface means virtually no oil is lost to the collection material. The temperature rating provides ample margin above the 300–400°F pressing range. The caveat about solvent incompatibility means PTFE should only be used for solventless processes.
