Non-Polar Wax

⚗️ Science First mentioned: Ep. 033

Hydrophobic waxy compounds present on the surface of cannabis trichomes that are insoluble in water but soluble in non-polar solvents like butane or hexane. These epicuticular waxes coat the trichome surface and are co-extracted along with cannabinoids during hydrocarbon extraction.

Discussed in episode 033 in the context of why different solvents produce different results. The panel noted that trichomes are 'coated in a non-polar wax effectively.'
