Moisture Content in Fresh Frozen

๐Ÿ’ง Extraction First mentioned: Ep. 056

The residual water trapped within the wax membrane of fresh-frozen cannabis trichome heads that can cause hash to butter out during processing. When making bubble hash from fresh frozen material, the intact wax membrane retains moisture that equilibrates with ambient humidity during drying, affecting final product consistency.

Discussed around 1:24-1:35. The panel explored why fresh frozen hash runs tend to butter out. Mark Scialdone explained this is an emulsion effect: the wax membrane holds moisture, and this residual water creates a butter consistency similar to dairy butter. Microplaning breaks open the heads and exposes them to air and moisture, potentially accelerating this process. Proper moisture management is critical when working with fresh frozen material.
