// Definition
An extraction philosophy and method that preserves the complete profile of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids from the source plant rather than isolating individual compounds. Full spectrum extraction is based on the principle that the therapeutic value of cannabis comes from the synergistic interaction of all its compounds working together โ the entourage effect in practice. It stands in contrast to isolate-based approaches that extract or synthesise single molecules like pure THC or CBD.
// From the Episode
Full spectrum extraction was advocated strongly by Tony Verzura in Episode 14. He argued that the industry trend toward isolating individual terpenes or cannabinoids fundamentally misses the point of how cannabis works. Separating compounds out of the plant removes them from the synergistic context that gives them their full therapeutic potential. His analogy compared cannabinoid profiles to musical notes โ each can be modulated, but a single note in isolation lacks the emotional impact of a chord. The practical implication is that extraction methods should prioritise preserving the complete chemical profile of the source material, which is why solventless methods like bubble hash and properly made dry sift are valued: they capture whole trichome heads with all their contents intact.
