Cultivar-Environment Matching

๐ŸŒฟ Cultivation First mentioned: Ep. 098

The practice of selecting cannabis cultivars based on how well they perform in a specific growing environment rather than solely on desirability of the end product. Different genetics thrive at different latitudes, altitudes, and in different greenhouse or indoor conditions.

A Washington 502 grower described inheriting a farm with 270 strains, none properly trialed. He spent seasons dialing down to fewer than a dozen commercially viable, pest-resistant cultivars suited to their greenhouses. Girl Scout Cookies performed poorly while other genetics thrived. Selecting resistant cultivars reduces the need for pest management interventions.
