Scientific discussion about why CBD in a carrier oil (coconut/MCT) does not appear to convert to THC in the human stomach despite in-vitro evidence, explained by the oil-phase protection theory: CBD absorbed faster than it can be degraded by stomach acid.
// From the Episode
Mark Scalone explains the oil-phase protection theory: CBD in a carrier oil (coconut/MCT) may be absorbed faster than it can be degraded by stomach acid. The Zuardi study used SDS (sodium dodecyl sulfate/soap) to emulsify CBD into the aqueous phase, allowing acid contact. Clinically, THC metabolites are not elevated in CBD-only patients, suggesting the oil vehicle protects CBD from conversion in vivo.
