Water Boil Extraction

๐Ÿ’ง Extraction First mentioned: Ep. 062

An ancient extraction method from the Islamic world (documented as early as the 11th century) where cannabis or hash is boiled in water and the oil droplets that separate and float to the surface are collected. The oil would then be dried out, producing a potent concentrate that was often mixed into yogurt as a beverage of unity among Sufi practitioners.

Chris Bennett shared historical references including a recipe from circa 1050 AD. He described how cannabis oil in incense recipes appears in the Picatrix text. Bennett noted this was a relatively clean extraction method, though the returns are unknown. The concentrate was used by Sufi monks as a communal sacrament.
