Supplemental Lighting in Tropics

๐ŸŒฟ Cultivation First mentioned: Ep. 128

The practice of providing extra artificial light (typically LED strips) to cannabis plants in equatorial regions to prevent premature flowering, allowing vegetative growth before switching to natural photoperiod for bloom.

In Jamaica, western indica-dominant varieties flower immediately when placed in the ground due to near-12/12 natural light cycle. Stringing LED lights across fields to extend daylight to 18 hours allows plants to veg before lights are removed to trigger flowering.
