Sensory Science of Cannabis

⚗️ Science First mentioned: Ep. 213

The study of how human olfactory perception interacts with cannabis aromatic compounds, including the theory that certain terpene profiles like Zkittlez may be universally perceivable by most people while other complex profiles require specialized olfactory sensitivity, similar to wine sommelier expertise.

Bubbleman and Jolly Roger discussed during the Barcelona jar check how Zkittlez dominates competitions possibly because 95% of the population can perceive its full aromatic bouquet. They compared this to wine sommeliers who have genetically superior olfactory sensitivity. Bubbleman noted that sulfur compounds cannot be smelled up close due to 'olfactory blowout' and must be sensed from a distance, which is why sensory science protocols advise against putting cannabis directly under the nose.
