PFAS Forever Chemicals

🩺 Medicine First mentioned: Ep. 220

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are synthetic compounds that do not degrade in the environment and accumulate in human tissue. Their presence in agricultural products including cannabis raises concerns about contamination and the importance of clean growing practices.

Dr. Mark Scialdone discussed PFAS on episode 220 in the context of environmental threats to human health, noting that Big Mac wrappers between 1965-1985 were coated with these compounds. He connected this to the broader argument that the endocannabinoid system needs support through clean cannabis to combat oxidative damage from environmental toxins. Adam Ill extended this by arguing that clean, terpene-rich cannabis helps the body detoxify from such persistent pollutants.
