Narrow Leaf Drug (NLD)

⚗️ Science First mentioned: Ep. 222

A botanical classification for cannabis plants with narrow leaflets, long internodes, and extended flowering periods, historically associated with equatorial landraces from Colombia, Mexico, Thailand, and South India. Distinct from broad leaf drug (BLD) types like Afghan.

Rob Clark uses this taxonomy throughout the episode when discussing pre-Afghan era cannabis diversity. He notes that Durban Poison was the earliest-maturing narrow-leaf drug variety, making it crucial for outdoor cultivation before Afghan genetics introduced earlier finishing times. Clark emphasizes these NLD varieties had a fundamentally different terpene profile from Afghan types -- more flowery and fruity versus earthy and dank.
