Hemp Farm Bill Loophole Closure

๐Ÿ”ฅ Culture First mentioned: Ep. 248

The federal closure of the 2018 Farm Bill loophole that had allowed hemp-derived THC products (THCA, Delta-8, etc.) to be sold nationally without state cannabis licensing, giving a 365-day transition period for compliance.

Panel debated impacts: access expansion vs. unregulated products harming patients and undermining licensed operators. Etienne Fontaine noted the same bill also pulled approved language allowing VA doctors to recommend medical cannabis to veterans. Bubbleman argued the hemp rules provided superior access but needed safety testing standards. CBD isolate crashed from $60,000/kg to $600/kg after hemp overproduction. Seed sales also affected -- companies given 50-day window.
