Harlequin

🩺 Medicine First mentioned: Ep. 225

A pioneering high-CBD cannabis cultivar developed by Wade Laughter, originating from a single seed that sprouted out of a batch brought from Switzerland by Lars Ruden. The strain became foundational to the medical cannabis movement, particularly for treating epilepsy, pain, and inflammation.

Swami tells the origin story: Lars Ruden brought seeds from Swiss geneticists to Wade's indoor grow, and of the entire batch only one seed sprouted -- which turned out to be a CBD-dominant phenotype. Wade saw this as cosmically ordained. The Harlequin cultivar earned recognition from High Times in 2008 and 2020. Reuben Valenveras mentions growing Harlequin extensively in Europe. Wade later developed 'Wade's Laughter' CBD strain with Humboldt Seed Company.
