Freeze Dryer Shelf Temperature

๐Ÿ’ง Extraction First mentioned: Ep. 210

The temperature of the heated shelves inside a freeze dryer that drives sublimation. For cannabis hash, lower shelf temperatures (around 5-10F rather than the standard 120F) preserve terpenes and trichome head integrity by keeping heads frozen during the drying process.

Frenchy Cannoli's protege Fletch (SPEAKER_12) explained that original freeze dryers shipped with 120F shelf temps which 'cooked' the hash. He claimed credit for developing the 40-degree shelf concept and providing the technology/knowledge to Harvest Right to build tunable shelf temps. Colin Palmer described staging shelf temps through a curve (10 to 20 to 30 to -30 to 25 to 10) rather than letting it rip to full vacuum all at once, comparing the process to tuning a modular synthesizer.
