Forever Chemicals in Rosin

⚗️ Science First mentioned: Ep. 210

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) that are ubiquitous environmental contaminants and a concern in cannabis processing, particularly regarding parchment paper, silicone mats, and other materials used in rosin production.

Collin Palmer raised the topic of forever chemicals from bleached parchment paper. Dr. Mark corrected him - PFAS contamination comes from historical industrial use (3M, DuPont coating Big Mac wrappers, Stainmaster carpets) not from the bleaching process. They are nearly ubiquitous and indestructible. Fletcher (SPEAKER_12) noted silicone coatings may also contaminate rosin and called for parts-per-million/billion testing. Bubbleman asked why regulatory bodies don't mandate testing for these contaminants.
