Exosomes For Cannabinoid Delivery

๐Ÿ”ฅ Culture First mentioned: Ep. 175

Exosomes are membrane-bound extracellular vesicles (20-80 nanometers) produced in the endosomal compartment of most eukaryotic cells, used for intercellular communication. Hemp plant exosomes naturally contain cannabinoids. When delivered intranasally, exosomes achieve 45x payload delivery across the blood-brain barrier compared to other methods, making them a promising vehicle for treating traumatic brain injuries during the critical golden hour after trauma.

Dr. Brent Reynolds (University of Miami neurosurgery) discovered brain stem cells in the late 1980s and now researches cannabis-derived exosomes. Israeli military medics already carry cannabinoid nasal spray for immediate TBI treatment in the field. Josh from DEM noted that medicinal mushrooms also produce exosomes containing their bioactive compounds. The Veterans Action Council used this Israeli TBI nasal spray as a key lobbying tool on Capitol Hill, targeting military fellows on Armed Services committees.
