// Definition
The first published guides on cannabis cultivation from the 1970s, notably the Mel Frank and Ed Rosenthal collaboration, which codified underground growing knowledge into accessible written form for the first time.
// From the Episode
Mel Frank describes publishing his first grow article in Rolling Stone's New York section, then co-writing a grow book with Ed Rosenthal in 1974 (published ~1977-78). The small 96-page book earned them only 17.5 cents each per copy. Frank was studying biology, botany, and microbiology at City College in New York at the time. These were among the very first cannabis cultivation references available, as prior literature was limited to WWII-era hemp farming guides.
