The foundational strain discovered by Greg (Chem Dog) at a Grateful Dead show at Deer Creek, Indiana on June 6-7, 1991. He purchased exceptional flower called 'dog weed' or 'chem weed' from Mike Peabud and Joe Bean, later finding 13 seeds in an ounce shipped to Massachusetts.

Four seeds were planted from the 'Lucky 13' -- one became the Chemsis, another became Chem 91. Greg combined the two nicknames 'chem weed' and 'dog bud' to create the name Chem Dog. The genetics likely originated from Northern California/Southern Oregon. The Crested Butte, Colorado crew distributed it on the Front Range. Greg's first intentional cross was Dog Days (NL5 Haze x ChemD) in early 2000s.
