// Definition
Medium-sized glandular trichomes with a short, barely visible stalk and a relatively small gland head. Less productive than capitate-stalked trichomes for hash making due to their smaller size and lower cannabinoid concentration, but they still contain active compounds. They represent the middle tier of the three main trichome types relevant to extraction, between the large capitate-stalked and the tiny bulbous trichomes.
// From the Episode
Capitate-sessile trichomes were covered in Episode 6 as part of an expanded breakdown of trichome types. The panel described three tiers: capitate-stalked (the primary target, with the largest heads and longest stalks), capitate-sessile (medium, with heads that sit close to the plant surface on short stalks), and bulbous (the smallest, with no visible stalk at all). For hash making, capitate-stalked trichomes are the prize because their long stalks make them easier to separate and their large heads contain the most cannabinoids and terpenes. Capitate-sessile trichomes contribute to overall potency but are harder to isolate cleanly and yield less per head.
